Teledyne Technologies 4th Generation Electronic Sequencer Flying Aboard F/A-18F

LOS ANGELES - September 27, 2002 - Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced today that the first Future Advanced Sequencer Technology (FAST) production unit designed and qualified by its Electronic Safety Products business unit has been installed and is flying aboard the newest U.S. Navy aircraft. The aircraft, an F/A-18F Superhornet, along with its advanced capabilities, now includes the latest and most advanced aircrew safety equipment in the world. Electronic Safety Products designed and developed the worlds first triple redundant digital micro-controller based sequencer in 1988 and has delivered over 1500 units to the U.S. Navy in support of the Navy Aircrew Common Ejection Seat (NACES). FAST is a replacement unit for the original sequencer developed in 1988. Deliveries of the new FAST electronic sequencer commenced in April 2002 and will continue for at least the next 5 years. Additionally, the FAST design has been chosen to support the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), also known as the F-35, aircraft being developed by Lockheed-Martin Aeronautics Company.

FAST, was developed with the U.S. Navy and Martin-Baker Aircraft Company, Ltd. (MBA) under a prime contract with the U.S. Navy. FAST was designed to include a 4th generation design architecture allowing for future system upgrades through add-on modules. NACES, designed and developed by MBA, is the host ejection seat for the FAST unit. FAST's open architecture design allows for future applications to be integrated into the unit with minimal impact to the core design. FAST is the first and only qualified man-rated system supported by the Department of Defense to fully utilize Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) electronic components which reduce the initial and life cycle costs of the unit once fielded. To ensure reliability over its 20 year minimum life span, Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) was performed to prove design robustness in the most stringent of U.S. Navy environments.

"Teledyne's NACES production line is now in its 14th consecutive year and is supporting U.S. Navy F14D, F/A-18C/D/E/F, and T-45A/C aircraft as well as F/A-18 aircraft procured through Foreign Military Sales (FMS) by Switzerland, Malaysia, Kuwait, and Finland," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies. "We are proud to provide this advanced safety equipment which gives aircrews the best chance for a safe recovery from emergency situations."
